Four ways to stop putting off juicing

So you finally bought a juicer and began a program of making fresh juice every day. But over time you find yourself skipping a day here and there, and then more often. Eventually you realize you hardly ever juice. What happened?

The common response is „I just don’t have time. “  You don’t want to juice at night, because you are tired from work and just want to relax in front of the TV.  And in the morning, it’s so difficult to get up early to make juice.

If you find yourself in this situation, here are four tips to help get you back on track!

1 Remind yourself why you are juicing.

It can be difficult to start a new habit – especially a healthy one. It all starts with self-motivation. Remind yourself why you purchased that juicer in the first place – to improve your health in a natural way.

2. Buy fresh produce only once a week.

Who wouldn’t get burned out running to the store every day or two for a couple of apples or carrots.  It’s much better to buy in bulk – enough fresh produce to last a week of juicing.  Also, you will be more motivated to juice while the produce is still fresh!

  • Make sure to buy only the freshest fruits and vegetables – not bruised or overripe.  Most fruits and vegetables in good condition should last a week without problem..
  • If you are worried that some produce won’t last the entire week, juice them first.  For example, strawberries and leafy greens should be juiced earlier rather than later.  Make sure to store them in the fridge.
  • Make sure to keep apples and pears away from other produce, as produce near them will ripen more quickly.
  • Don’t wash your produce until you are ready to juice it.

3. Clean your juicer right after using it.

Sometimes it can seem to be too much work to clean your juicer.  But it’s always much easier to clean right after using it, otherwise bits of produce can dry onto the parts, making cleaning that much more difficult later.

Don’t think about cleaning your juicer as “punishment.”  Think about how it gives you energy and cleans out your system – and your juicer deserves the same treatment. :)

For most modern juicers, a quick rinse and brushing is all that is needed – you’re done in a couple of minutes. If you’re really in a hurry, at least put the parts into a sink full of water to soak.

4. Frozen juice!

If you have the space in your freezer, just juice once or twice a week and freeze what you don’t use immediately.  Use glass or plastic bottles – just make sure to leave enough space (about 20% of volume) empty to give it space for expansion.  You can keep it stores long-term in your freezer, or for up to 24 hours in the fridge if you use an airtight container.

Stick to the plan for 30 days without a break!

Once you make a juicing plan, stick to it for at least 30 days. That is the amount of time it takes to establish a new habit. If you miss a day, don’t quit. Just make sure not to miss two days in a row. Then it’s likely that you will break your new habit.

Tip: If you can go 90 days, the habit will become a routine and will be nearly unbreakable.
