Here at Sana, we are always looking for ways to make juicing easier. And with the Sana 848, we have an innovative way to achieve this - vacuum storage. By vacuum sealing your juice, it will keep the maximum amount of flavor and nutrition for 72 hours. The Sana 848 includes an XL 1500ml vacuum juice container and pump to make that possible. Let's say you are following the popular 500ml daily celery juice regimen. On Monday morning, you can make your 500ml of juice, pour it in a glass, and then continue juicing until the container is full. Just snap on the lid, give it a few pumps to remove the air, and you've got enough juice for the next three days. Simply pump it each morning after pouring your daily juice, and you won't need to juice again until Friday.
The most time-consuming part of cleaning a juicer is scrubbing the juicing screen. We've designed all of our juicers to be easy to clean, but the 848 takes it to the next level with a mesh-free juicing system. Using two interlocking BPA-free strainers, pulp is pressed against narrow vertical slits, allowing the fresh cold-pressed juice to be gently squeezed. When you're done, just rinse the strainers under cold running water - no brushing needed. With most produce, you can clean the juicer in under a minute, since the juicing assembly (drum, feeding tube, auger, and strainer) just need to be rinsed.
Soft fruits like pineapple and berries are difficult to juice in any juicer, because they can plug the juicing screen and cause backup. That's why we include not only the standard juicing screen, but a soft fruit screen with wider vertical slits. This means lower pressure is applied to the produce, and less backup occurs. It's also handy for those who like a richer, more pulpy juice. In addition, you can make fresh fruit sorbet with the included sorbet strainer. Using slightly thawed frozen fruit like mango, bananas, berries, even avocados, you can make smooth, creamy sorbet.
Every part of the Sana 848 reflects our attention to detail and quality. For example, most juicers only include a small plastic cup to collect the pulp. The Sana 848 uses a large stainless steel pulp container. Not only does this look beautiful on the kitchen counter, it is also ideal for people who like to hygienically save their pulp for other uses. For example, pulp can be added to cakes and muffins, put in smoothies for fiber and taste, and even dehydrated into healthy crackers.
Made in South Korea from premium materials, the Sana 848 uses a high-torque brushless 150-watt motor. This gives the Sana 848 the power to cut through tough produce while still remaining quiet and smooth. Operating at a relaxed 43 rpm, the Sana 848 gently chews produce into pulp, then cold-presses it for maximum taste and nutrition. The dual-bladed auger allows produce to be sliced twice per rotation, while our dual hopper has both a standard feeding tube and a larger bowl to make feeding chopped produce and leafy greens much easier.
It's interesting to see the incremental improvements made over the past decade as manufacturers look for new ways to make juicing easier. Most of these improvements are design elements such as a wider feeding tubes, pre-cutting chambers, no-brush screens, and augers with built-in slicing blades. While the 848 has some of these features - the easy cleaning strainers being a standout - Sana approached the question of how to make juicing easier from a new perspective. Rather than focus entirely on how to cut off a couple of minutes from a juicing session, the emphasis here is making juicing easier by juicing less often. And when we think about it, it makes sense. Let's say you juice every day, and it takes 15 minutes per session including chopping produce, feeding the juicer, and cleaning it. That is 105 minutes per week. A juicer with a pre-chopping chamber might save you a couple of minutes, although typically prepping and cleaning take more time than the acutal juicing. That would amount to about 20 minutes over the course of the week.
With the vacuum storage container, you can just do two longer juicing sessions per week: enough for that day and putting the nest few day's juice in that big vacuum container. We reckon, even with longer juicing sessions to make more juice, you will spend less than half the time as you would from daily juicing.
But is the juice any good after two or three days? Yes, because the 848 is running at just 43 rpm, there is almost zero oxidation. As long as you pump out the air right after juicing and put it in the fridge, we noticed little difference between just-pressed juice and vacuum sealed juice. Mixed juice recipes tended to separate into layers, although less so under vacuum. But a quick stir took care of that.
In terms of other aspects, the big difference with the 848 is the screenless juicing system. This has its pros and cons. The main benefit is the very fast cleaning - you really just need to rinse it except for things like turmeric or other "sticky" produce. It also juices fast with no backup. On the other hand, the juice tends to be pulpier as the straining system is not as tight as with stainless steel mesh juicers. Yield is also a little less than with a full stainless steel strainer.
Overall, we would recommend the Sana 848 for people who juice daily and want to save time, as well as for those who want the easiest juicer to clean.
