Ginger is not a fruit or vegetable in the usual sense. It’s a fibrous rhizome with a woody internal structure and long, tough fibers. This creates several challenges:
- High mechanical load: Ginger fibers tangle around augers and strain screens.
- Low free liquid: Compared to apples or citrus, ginger yields very little juice, forcing the juicer to work harder.
- Abrasive material: Continuous ginger juicing accelerates wear, especially on plastic screens and lightweight augers.
Freshness matters. Young (baby) ginger, harvested earlier, contains more moisture and fewer fibers, making it significantly easier to juice than fully mature ginger.
